Thinking Qualitatively – IIQM Summer 2016

The following two day-long ATLAS.ti workshops are offered at the 16th Thinking Qualitatively Workshop Series, hosted by the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

  • Intro to Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti (Windows) –  Valentina Petrova

    9:00 am – 4:00 pm

This workshop will introduce the methodological concepts behind Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) software and the key functions of ATLAS.ti for Windows. The format of the workshop will include an introductory presentation giving an overview of the program and its key elements and functions. Hands-on interactive instruction will take up most of the workshop. Participants will create a new project and proceed to add a set of sample source documents (including semi-structured interviews), organize, and code them. The data will be provided by the instructor.

  • Advanced ATLAS.ti – Data Exploration, Analysis and Outputs (Windows) – Valentina Petrova

This workshop teaches key data analysis functions in ATLAS.ti, emphasizing data organization and systematic documentation of the analysis process. The workshop will include some lecturing, but will largely rely on hands-on work with a sample set of qualitative data provided by the instructor. Participants will conduct data exploration, analysis using a variety of ATLAS.ti tools, and will practice generating both quantitative and qualitative outputs from the project data provided.
